Who we are

Who represents UYC?

UYC is represented by 6 members elected by provincial boards and 2 ex-officio members (UYDC and UBA). The 6 members are from different regions of the Moravian Church and are elected for a certain time period. Currently, there are these representatives: William and David from the African region, Phill from the European region, Angelica from the (North) American region and Sacha from the Caribbean and Latin American region.

These people are here to help you and encourage the work with youth in the province. If you need anything, do not hesitate to contact us and ask.

AFRICAN REGION

Br. William Isaya Sungura

Province: Tanzania – Lake Tanganyika

Home congregation: Mwanga Moravian Church – Lake Tanganyika Province – Kigoma Tanzania

Works/serves: Provincial Board Member Lake Tanganyika Province, UYC Member and recorder, Chairperson of the Youth Council in Lake Tanganyika Province Western District, Chairperson of the Planning and Construction committee in my Congregation

Passion: When I look around, I see that I have the responsibility to serve other people in need, when I look around I see a lot of youth hanging do and sometimes don't know which way to follow, so I have the passion to unlock and develop the potential within Youth, because we are not only strong, but the WORD of GOD resides in Youth " 1. John 2:14

Favourite book of the Bible: I don’t have specific  favourite book in the Bible, but I’ll love to share my Confirmation Text to the youth and other colleague who are in difficult time, “that, they should not stop pray to GOD because GOD is faithful, He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it” – 1. Corinthians 10:13

AFRICAN REGION

Br. David William Daniels

Province: South Africa

Works/serves: President of the Moravian Youth Union of South Africa, Chairperson of the Church Council and Ecumenical Worker

Passion: The development and unlocking the potential in our Youth, because we are not only the ‘Leaders of tomorrow’ but are Leaders already in our societies. My favourite quote: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”- Mahatma Gandhi

Favourite book of the Bible: I don’t have a favorite book in the Bible, but I’ll love to share my Confirmation Text, which I try to practice daily in my life: “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” – Luke 6:27-28

EUROPEAN REGION

Br. Phillip Battelle

Province: British

Home congregation: Ockbrook Moravian Church (Derby, UK)

Position in the church: Currently Church Committee & Congregational Member, District Youth Rep (Midlands), Weekly Fellowship Biscuit Taste Tester

Passion: My big passion is finding or creating opportunities to share with others that will better their lives; either via information, communication or fellowship.

Favourite book of the Bible: How can we have just one book? Personally, I'm a reader of Paul - I find it the absolutely flip in his life very intriguing. However, the current 'story' I'm studying is Jesus Curses the Fig Tree (Mark 11:12–14, 20–25).

CARIBBEAN REGION

Rev. Sacha Alan Lambert

Province: Jamaica and the Cayman Islands

Works/serves: pastor of the Zorn Memorial Circuit of Moravian Churches/Moderator of Unity Youth Committee

Passion: Spreading the Gospel, serving others, community empowerment, global affairs, animals, music, nature and laughing.

Favourite book of the Bible: Don't have a favourite. I draw something from all. However, two of my favourite Bible personalities are Jeremiah and Esther.

Rev. Angelica Regalado Cieza

Province: North America – South

Works/serves: Founding Pastor & Mission Developer at Estamos Unidos Moravian Ministry, Director of Mission Outreach with the Board of World Mission

Passion: Sharing God's love to different communities, learning from different cultures, eating

Favorite book of the Bible: The gospels because I love to learn more and more about Jesus' life on earth and his relationship with others + I love parables

Your favourite book of the Bible: in the moment it’s Philippians, because it’s a letter written from a prison reminding us so many times to rejoice and to be happy through all the circumstances, it reminds me to praise God even if I don’t feel the best.
